◆ Recipe · 2 steps

Sort, dedupe and count a list

Sort a list, remove the duplicates, then count the words and characters in the cleaned result.

Why this recipe exists. A messy paste from a spreadsheet or a chat log is hard to read and hard to trust. Sorting and deduping first, then counting, tells you what you actually have before it goes anywhere.

03 Edges

If it breaks

One concrete edge case per step.

  • Line Sorter: Numeric sort on a line that is not a number, such as “one”, shows “Some lines are not numbers — those stay at the end.” and still produces output.
  • Word Counter: Empty text shows “Add some text to count.” rather than a row of zeros, so a blank list is obvious before you copy the numbers.
